Stephen V. Harkness acquired his summer/country lake house at Willoughby outside of Cleveland, Ohio in 1879.
Located in the 222 acre property was the inlet for the Chagrin River, so it was likely his yacht Peerless, which he took delivery on in 1885, was docked there.
In the 1890's, after Stephen had passed away in 1888, Anna Harkness built a new home there. It was last occupied by the Harkness family in 1902. It was later sold multiple times until C.E.I. (Cleveland Electric Illuminating) built a $20M plant there in 1951 and demolished the house.
